Dear Gilbert Lawrence et all,
The term 'DIASPORA' has been used rather frequently in Goanet discussions.
Is it applicable to the Goans not residing in Goa ?
How about the Italians/Europeans living in other parts of the world ? Could it also apply to them ?
There must be another english word which is more suitable I should think. Perhaps I am wrong.

The article on "Goans in Pakistan" by Menin Rodgrigues is an excellent piece of research and posting that should make all Goans proud. Now we have a very good picture of one Diaspora group at the dawn of the 21st century.
I hope all other Diaspora Goan groups will follow that lead. As the big meeting is taking place in Panjim, Goa on NRI / NRG, I would urge that a recommendation be made that the Sociology Department of Goa University together with sociologists in the Goan Diaspora undertake a systematic evaluation of the major if not each Goan Diaspora group. Here is a call and a plea to all Goan sociologists wherever they are - Goa, India, in other Diaspora. They owe this study to future generations of Goans.
Goans undertaking Thesis and dissertational studies on Goans should be STRONGLY encouraged by the Goan community if not their Professors/Mentors to study the Diaspora group in their own or another country rather that base their research on fictional novels written by Goan authors (a travesty and a blatant use of our Goan community).
