------------ Jos Loureno worte: I have always been intrigued by the life of Rogerio de Faria , the controversial opium dealer (originally of St.Inez?) who was involved in the attempt to take Goa by force in the times of Bernard Peres da Silva. I mustily recall having read of this episode in a book by Senhor Teotonio. Where does one find more information on this illfated expedition that set out from Bombay ? I am also curious to know more of the encounter at Tiracol where Peres' supporters were killed by the revolting military. Little is known of this bloody event in Goan history. At the risk of sounding like a bloodthirsty voyeur, I also ask if anyone knows of whether the gory detailed punishment laid down for those guilty in the Pinto Revolt episode were actually carried out ? -- Jose Lourenco ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
