Response: Reading this letter which I presume is a direct translation of the letter suggest that "new-Christian (crypto-Jew) burnt in Goa for his heresies and blasphemies" (does not say against whom) is a political event, but guised as heresies and blasphemies. This information is directly followed and linked with the warning of "large-scale clandestine immigration of the Jews to India and the other threats to Portugal." From a prior post the victim was a supposed to be a convert from the Jewish faith to Catholicism and was presumably part of "the large scale clandestine immigration of the Jews to India".
