Hi there I'd like to say a few things in response to this e-mail. Firstly I entirely agree that the average spend of a tourist is way way out - I've been lucky enough to holiday in Goa virtually every year for the last 7-8 years, soemtimes twice in a year and have never had that amount of money to spend. I just don't think that people really have that much money to spend on holiday and if they really spent that much what would they have spent it on ? Last time I came to Goa in January 2003 I spent GBP 300 in two weeks, this was renting an apartment, buying food, using taxis, eating out as well as shopping adn partying and I still had plenty of money left for souvenirs and shopping. I am not a dole collector or on an old age pension but earn a good salary and I still would not be able to afford in excess of GBP 800 whilst on holiday. In the time I have been coming to Goa I have saldy noticed the big difference. I will never ever forget that first day in Goa walking up over the dunes in Calangute and seeing the sea and the beautiful beach beyond. The amazing feeling I had of awe and magic is something that will always stay with me. I fell in love with Goa and it's people and have continued to visit as often as I can ever since. However I have noticed the semi destruction of a lot of the beauty. The hotels are springing up everywhere and are often not very pretty to look at. I can only hope that the proposed theme park in the Candolim area has been forgotten. The beauty of Goa lies in it's beaches, it's houses, it's people, it's fresh food, it's colours and the wonderful climate - destroy too much of this in the name of commercialism or tourism and you will destroy the very thing that makes us tourists fall in love so passionately with Goa adn keeps us coming back year after year.
