I wish to introduce a thread that seems to be important for proper and useful dialogue and I hope it will promote some discussion and a follow-up action. It concerns postings with pseudonyms and e-mail addresses that make it difficult to trace the identity of the poster. I believe that any internet forum worth its salt and seeking to promote noble ideals should adopt the policy of not permitting anyone to join the forum without identifying himself / herself. If the e-mail address lends to hiding the identity, it is an additional ground to block out such members.
Anonimity / Pseudonyms only reveal cowardice or doubtful intentions. I know of some Goa-related forums, including goanet (is it more important to count thousands of members? ) which have not adopted as yet a policy of banning anonymous participants in the forum. It does not help to create a ground for useful and sincere dialogue. Half-century long censorship under Portuguese dictatorship may have been responsible for the tradition of "pseudonyms", but do we need to keep such a tradition in Goa, if we wish to promote democracy? Why talk of Goa's liberation, if we are not able to manifest our personal courage and openness in our democratic institutions? Democractic freedom cannot be reduced to freedom of the irresponsibility of the anonymous. Personally, I refuse to respond to anyone who appears as xacuti or benbinca, with his or her syrupy or nasty opinions.
