It is good that Ralph and you get along directly. There will be lot of interesting information you'll will share. Of course, you must know his sister and family, in Lisbon.
Tony is Anthony Joseph Gomes, a very emminent doctor: Professor of Electro-cardiology of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, N.Y., as well as Head of that dept at the Mount Sinai Hospital, NY. Has been for years.
He is son of Agostinho and Olympia Gomes, both late.
We are neighbours in Loutulim and of same vintage: 1944, a good year I assure you. But special neighbours. You see, D. Olympia and my mothe, Maura, used chums in Aldona, as kids. She was from Aldona and my mother, grandchild of the Luis Jose de Sousa, of Quitula. Doughters and sons of that copiously prolific family were warrened out all over Bardez, and considerable part of Goa.
In aldona itself they were quite legion: Honorato Elvino de Sousa, dominating the church square, the Coutinhos of Ranoi, etc.
My grand mother, Vasconcelos e Cunha, Ucassaim, Willie's mother, Anjuna, Abilio Sousa, Quepem and so on.
In those days, for girls from Bardez, to be given in marriage in far off (outlandish) Salcete, was a phenomenon as rare as it was daring.
For D. Olympia, and my mother, to end up married within a shout's distance from each other was to the young brides a heaven-sent bridal bonanza.
Tony and Ralph, as I wrote earlier, are brothers-in-law. Tony married poor Marina. They have a daughter, Tatiana, and he is now a gradfather. I am going to be one, next August. Having studied, played, chased girls together we are still maintaining parity.
Tony, Jose and Ema Colaco, the Ribeiro boys (2) were, I believe, if not classmates, contemporaries at the GMC. I contributed considerably in maintaining their medical degrees undiluted.
D. Olympia was also related to the Abreu Lobos of Ucassaim, now liberated Bastora; and, thus they had a common and much loved senior, also married in nearby, Margao, D. Julia Santana Silva, Eurico's (mother). She was my mother's godmother and, I have very fond memories of her, especially her mangadas and other preserves.
I dont know whether your "Abreu" is branched off from John.
I hope that answered your question of Tony Gomes, some way. For more information, apply to Thelma Antao. Her mother was another, nee Rodrigues, married Perreira, Benaulim, was another Bardez export. So was Piedade, married Morais, Benaulim. My, cousin, Luis (Roquito) Morais, lives in Stockholm.
But there was a reverse input. In one case, male. Cosme da Costa, Curtorim, married Adelgiza, Quitula
and settled in Mapuca. Are Livia and he related Costas?
Family tracing is one of my more pleasurable pastimes, especially when accompanied with a cup and decanter of some fine fiery fluid! So, I welcome any such querries and will, com vossa graciosa (same as gracious?) reciprocate.
In fact I have been thinking of compiling a directory of GOANS ABROAD. I would like to here your opinion of the concept. If you, and a few other peers agree, I would like to circulate a questionaire, through our personal as well as respective Goan wwwcontacts. My children, who love Goa and its varied intricacies, are pestering me to do it.

Is Ralph son of Leocadia and Manu Flores? If so, he is my cousin through their mother. My late mother was Georgina Pinto de Abreu and my late father was Carlos de Noronha. - Leocadia and Manu's son Antonio died in Angola some years ago, I wonder who is this Tony referred to in your mail.
