Dear James, I think one shouldnt generlaise in the first instance. This is a common trait in most communities,this i can say with conviction having been brought up in a cosmopolitan background (BOMBAY) Presently i am in Dubai and the same retort has been heard from Maharashtrans Oriya (Orissa) Delhities to name a few.
One should see it more as a defense mechanism. If we cant get the best or someone does better than us we find some reason to console us.
Else try to be a barrier for the other persons success cause we need companaions in failure.
Mama i got only 35 marks in MATHS, but you know JOHNNY GOT 25 hence he failed.
So its not the community its the intentions and upbringing which makes the difference.
