Hullo Goans Everywhere, There are a very large number of Goan boys from Goa and Bombay and now from the Middle East who attend and attended St Mary's High School, Mount Abu. This year on March 4, 2004 St Mary's completes seventy five years of service to boys who are now spread all around the world. If you are aware of any of our Alumni, please convey this message on to them. Thanks -- Cheers Aloysius D'Souza Sent: Thursday, February 05, 2004 2:40 PM Subject: Platinum Jubilee -- St Mary's High School, Mount Abu -- March 4, 2004 Hi SMHS Alumni all around the World, This is further to my message of January 29, 2004. Bro Anish, Principal of SMHS, and I have been exchanging e-mail messages and I have also checked out both the websites -- http://dgrc.ca/sms http://www.sms.ac.in St Mary's High school, Mount Abu e-mail address: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Brother Anish has set very modest targets of what he hopes to accomplish during this Platinum Jubilee year, viz: "Funds collected in connection with the Jubilee could be utilized towards the completion of some of the projects which are given below. 1. New desks in the classrooms. 2. Renovation of Servants and Staff Quarters. 3. Restoration of the faade of the Old Dormitory Building. 4. Repair of the approach road to school. 5. Improvement of Science Laboratory. 6. Renovation of Old Gymnasium building. 7. Improvement of equipment/facilities for washing and drying clothes. 8. Inoculation of Grade 4 staff and families against Typhoid and Hepatitis A/B. Parents/Well wishers wishing to contribute towards the Platinum Jubilee Fund are to send their contributions in the form of Demand Draft only. The name and account number are given below. "St Mary's High School Platinum Jubilee Fund" Ac/No 01100008128" My suggestion is that we aim to make SMHS a really top school on par with the latest schools now operating in India, e.g. Ambani International School, Bombay, Mahindra's Interntional School just outside Poona and the latest, JANAKI INTERNATIONAL RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL, which is being set up near Manor (off Bombay - Ahmedabad Highway) and scheduled to open June 2004 -- http://www.janirs.com and schools run by the Krishnamurti Foundation India -- mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To the best of my knowledge the adjoining hill, which we used to refer to as "Convent Hill" was originally intended for the Convent School then located in one of the buildings of the British Army Garrison at Abu (before the Sophia Nuns took over and shifted to near Nakki Lake). The Convent built the access road on the right just after leaving Toll Naka. If this hill is still available, maybe SMHS could take it over and expand and improve our old School. In addition we could also take up the following projects: 1. Basic primary education of Bhil children in areas around SMHS with the possibility of taking the bright lads for high school education and, if suitable, even to engineering and / or medical graduation levels. 2. Re-forestation of the hills of Abu as a memorial to Bro.George Bennett 3. Re-introduce into the Abu Wild Life Sanctuary, sambhar and deer and when sustainable flocks are established, re-introduce tigers and anthers -- to bring Abu back to what the Irish Chritian Brothers originally came to in 1929. These are dreams, but unless we dream we will not advance and I think for the Platinum Jubilee we have to dream in PLATINUM terms. Out of 380 alumni on my e-mailing list, about 170 appear to have changed e-mail addresses, so please each of you forward this message to any Alumni in your Address Book so that as many as possible of our Alumni start to dream of what we can achieve for our old school. Keep in e-mail contact.
