Football Fiesta on Kuwait's National Day draws record crowd
Kuwait, 25/2/2004: Today being Kuwait's National Day (public holiday) and Ash Wednesday, the crowd at Al-Sour Ground was a record high, so also were the participating teams.�It was quite interesting to see the Catholic faithful with ash marks on their foreheads, signifying that they did their obligatory religious prayers earlier. Curtorcares United, a registered football club with the Kuwait Indian Football Federation (KIFF), with Salvador Dias as its president and Mariano D'Silva as its vice president, organized their 8th one day 7-a-side football tournament. The teams were divided into two groups: Group �A�: United Friends Club, Santos Football Club, United Goans Strikers, Jai Hind, Bombay Boys �B�, GOA Maroons �B�, and Curtorcares United �B�. Group �B�: Navelim Youth Centre, Assolna-Velim-Cuncolim (AVC), Kerala Challengers, GOA Maroons �A�, CRC Chinchinim, Rising Stars, Bombay Boys �A�, and Curtorcares United �A�. The football fans has a field day watching their favourites on both the Grounds. The Al-Sour Grounds has a festive look, with a large tent put up, with the flags of Kuwait and India flying on top. An adequate sound system was put up. Complimentary soft drinks and tea was served to the spectators. As the tournament winded off, Bombay Boys 'A' took home the coveted trophy defeating the crowd's favourite Santos Football Club for a score of 2:1 in the finals.�The score at lemon time was 1:1. Earlier in the semi-finals, Bombay Boys egded out Kerala Challengers, and Santos Football Club knocked out Goa Maroons.� Compere Thracha D�mello, hailing from Curtorim,�was specially flown in from Dubai (UAE) for the tournament.�It made a pleasant change in the usual affairs of conducting such a tournament here.�The�tournament was sponsored by�NGEECO (SIEMENS).� The teams were divided into two groups: Group �A�: United Friends Club, Santos Football Club,�United Goans Strikers, Jai Hind, Bombay Boys �B�, GOA Maroons �B�, and Curtorcares United �B�.
