Dear Rene , We at the goa heritage action group have restored the historic column at tonca panaji which is the end point of miramar.the heritage column at the tonca junction the construction of the road linking panaji with donapaula during the portuguese period in the year 1859. the pillar or column is 144 years ,4 months and six days old on the 9th march when we are reopening it with a small function with goan folk dances at the site.the road preceded the present dayanand bandodkar marg.this pillar is a landmark piece of street furniture of panaji .the restoration work was funded by the city corporation . on my way to college i used to see this column lying all crippled and brought the restoration proposal to our group. to me personally this is a dream come true.we are also going to protest against the botanical garden at the 12th century tambdi surla temple built by the kadamba Queen of Goa kamaladevi. the proposed botanical garden will disturb the natural anbience of the said temple .our next fontainhas festival is slated for january 2005. please campaign for the tambdi surla temple issue amongst all your world goan friends and organisations and also inform them of our restoration work of tonca pillar. Thanks a million for being so kind to us . God bless you and your family Prof. Prajal Sakhardande V.President , Goa heritage action group.
