Hello, Rui!

(You wrote: You must also be aware that not all that you hear in Goa is factual, there's a lot of misinformation and plain anti-Portuguese brainwashing in the Goan media. That's ironic, because I don't find an equivalent anglophobia in the rest of India.)

I categorically deny your first statement (there's a lot of misinformation and plain anti-Portuguese brainwashing in the Goan media). I'm a journalist who has been part of the media scene in Goa and still maintains close links with media there. I've never seen any "misinformation" or "plain anti-Portuguese brainwashing" in the Goan media. How did you get that idea, Rui? Surely through someone like a Goan doctor in Nassau whose favourite pastime is to nitpick inaccuracies in the Goan media and flaunt them as egragious examples of Portuguese-bashing!

As for the second sentence (That's ironic, because I don't find an equivalent anglophobia in the rest of India), the apologists of the Portuguese regime must do some introspection as to why it's happening in Goa and not in other parts of India. If you take a close look, you'll notice that the anti-Portuguese sentiments expressed on this forum are basically reactions -- a kind of backlash to the brazen India-baiting by a handful drummer boys of the Portuguese.

In other parts of the country, nobody harks back to the pre-1947 days to belittle the advances made by independent India. That's not the case in Goa. Here a miniscule minority (most of them fossilised pensioners) can't still reconcile to the reality of Goa's integration with India and keep bombarding others with their bigoted anti-India rubbish, provoking neutral observers and well-wishers of Goa like me to retaliate in kind.

Believe me, Rui, I've nothing against Portugal and I'm all for friendly relations and closer interaction between the peoples of the two countries, if only the delirious stretcher cases here would allow that to happen!

Now let's move on to the last paragraph of your post. You write: "In this country, some people can get very rich honestly. One example is Mr. Belmiro de Azevedo, founder of "Sonae", who built and industrial empire from scratch in less than 20 years. No one ever accused him of committing any crime. By the way, would you tell me what are the crimes committed by Bill Gates on his way to success and fortune?"

Dig deeper into 'Sonae' and I'm sure you'll find skeletons tumbling out of the cupboard. As for the Bill Gates bit, Rui, please read the ant-trust case files and you'll get a fair idea of the crimes he committed. Had the Democrats won the last US presidential elections, Microsoft would have been split into two, three or four entities.

I hate long posts. This is already beyond my limit. Will discuss the other points you've raised another time. Keep in touch!

Regards & best wishes,

RKN
