  ==========================================
  Folks,

From the Current issue (2004-9) of Goan Voice UK:

2 Mar. Evening Press (York). Gordon Campbell-Thomas has been in the
forefront of a campaign to transform a 24 acre disused brick works into a
nature reserve. In two weeks, the veteran environmental campaigner will be
leaving York to head for Goa where, using the York model, he plans to
transform another disused brick works into a nature reserve. "I'm absolutely
over the moon about this [the granting of local nature reserve status]," he
says. "I'm leaving in two weeks and this really is the culmination of 16
years of hard work. It is a real bonus."

Quote: "It will be a great shame to see Gordon leave York to take on new
environmental challenges in Goa but he can leave safe in the knowledge that
he has done his bit to make York a better place to live and helped towards
giving our planet a sustainable future."

From Goan Voice UK, 8 Nov. 2002: Evening News (York, UK). Gordon
Campbell-Thomas is using skills picked up in York to transform a rubbish
dump in Goa. He plans to transform the Mapusa dump with the help of
prominent Goans and English people. The work, estimated to take about ten
years, will be powered by solar panels and wind turbine, and will recycle
rainwater for drinking.

Gordon may be contacted at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

On 5 Dec 2003, he had written to me:

Please find an article about the project and some photo's of the site. The
biomedical waste was dumped there this year, fly tipping still goes on. The
image of the environment centre is in York, however it could be in Mapusa.
The nature park I work from used to be a garbage site.
I hope you can find some space for this in your magazine. John Lally
International Foundation are determined to do the work, however we need
support. We have this out there in Goa, but would welcome other Goans if
they wish to get involved.

  Cheers,

  Eddie Fernandes.
