Mr. Vilas Sonu Surlakar will talk on " Ancient names of Goan villages and
towns" on Friday,12 March,2004 at Mapusa Residency[Tourist Hostel]
Conference Hall between 7.30 and 8 P.M. .Those residing in and around
Mapusa/Mhapsa/Mapuca and interested in knowing a little bit more about the
names of places are welcome to join the members of the Rotary Club of Mapuca
for the talk.[ I write this with the permission of the President of the
Club]. Late comers will miss the talk. Early birds can join us for a cup of
tea between 7 and 7.30 P.M. immediately before the talk. The Rotary meeting
includes the singing of the National Anthem at the start. Please do not
enter during the anthem. Dress code is informal.

There are quite a few villages and wards with the same name, e.g. Badem,
Baga, Caranzol, Camurlim, Chicalim, Kerim/Querim, Sinquerim/Sinquetim,
Maina, Macazana, Nagoa, Naroa/Narva, Nanora/Nanoda, Navelim, Pirna/Pirni,
Sanvordem, Quitol/Quitla, etc in different parts of Goa. The name is derived
from the topography, vegetation, navigation, etc. We could have a lively
interaction, if time permits. Otherwise goanet and other fora are always
there for the discussion to spill over.

Viva Goa.

Miguel
