----- Original Message ----- From: "Jose Colaco" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ..and I ask anyone who might know the answer: WAS the Bakshish system more or less prevelant in Goa before 1961?
Each country has a different word coined for 'Bribe'.. if we say 'Bakshish' in India, we say 'Hadia' in the gulf...... meaning gift. What is the konkani word for the same.....is it Sagvad? Sagvad as we say in Salcette, is a basket full of local produce which was given to Regidors and batkars for favours granted. Sagvad can also be sent as a wedding present.
