The Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) will observe a Consumer Rights Awareness Fortnight from 14th - 28th March.
During the fortnight GOACAN will promote the slogan Water is a Consumer Right, Protect Water Protect life, incorporating the theme of the International Consumer Rights Day.
GOACAN will mobilize consumers to assert that water is a consumer right and that the supply of water must be safe, sufficient, regular, convenient and at an affordable price.
During the fortnight volunteers of the various Civic and Consumers Forums will discuss various water related issues in their communities such as sanitation, water scarcity, mismanagement, water contamination and pollution, harnessing of traditional water sources like wells, springs, lakes, ponds and the need for rainwater harvesting as well as prepare proposals & resolutions for the forthcoming Village Panchayat Gram Sabha.
The recent legislations " Goa Provision of Water Supply Act 2003 " & the "Goa Ground Water Regulation Act 2002" and their implications for the consumers will also be discussed during the fortnight.
