Journalist Eugene Correia phoned me from Bogmalo this afternoon. He's someone whose work I've been following since my involvement with Goanet many years back.
For the few who might not know him, here's a chapter from the e-book critique of Goan journalism, compiled in October 2003. Incidentally, the e-book has been accepted to form part of the ambitious Project Gutenberg and is now available at the URL below: Behind the News: Voices from Goa's Press, by Various11523C [Link: http://www.gutenberg.net/1/1/5/2/11523 ] [Files: 11523.txt ] And here goes the intro: Canada-based Eugene Correia has worked for a wide range of national-level newspapers published in India. He has also written for India Today, and a number of expat Indian publications published from overseas. What stands out is this journalist's sharp understanding of Goan issues and politics, and his memory for detail, all the more remarkable since he has been based outside Goa for virtually his entire working life. We were thinking that interested Goanetters and GoaJourno members could informally meet up with Eugene in Panjim (Kala Academy or Cafe Prakash?), possibly on March 19 (Friday) evening. Could we tentatively say (subject to change) 4 pm at Cafe Prakash on coming Friday? Need to re-confirm this with Eugene first...
