This reminds me of one of my American colleagues who was an English lecturer in our Institution about five years ago. He was 70 years old. He was the only person who wore a crash helmet when he drove his car. When asked why he always wore a helmet while driving, he said he felt safer wearing it. He would further defend himself by saying havent you seen guys racing cars wear helmets? It saves injury to the head when in an accident. Obviously, he took every precaution he could in order to save his head, but fate had other plans for him. During one of his vacations, he tripped on carpet and rolled down the stair at his home in the States, suffered injuries to his head and neck and had to be hospitalized. When he recovered and returned to work, he narrated the whole incident to us and we all felt very sad for him. At the end of our conversation, I jokingly asked him Werent you wearing the helmet, George? He embarrassingly replied: Of course not Domnic; had I done that I wouldnt get injured! Que sera, sera!!!

Actually, I am in favor of introduction of compulsory helmet rule in Goa. Helmet once saved my life.

I also urge everyone to make use of seat belts in their cars. Seat belt saved my life in Dubai last month!

Domnic Fernandes

Dear netters,
While the traffic cops are going soft on the 'helmet rule', it was heartening to read that a young MLA from Margao was seen wearing a helmet while watching a bullfight at dawn in Benaulim. Riding with a helmet is legal, watching an organized bullfight, with or without helmet, is illegal. Assuni re! ani mog assum.
