Democratic norms were flouted in Taleigao as they had never been in any panchayat elections in the state and this might set a wrong trend, she said. Ms Fernandes appealed to the voters in the state to pay no attention to the fear psychosis spread through warnings and threats and ignore the lure of money during the forthcoming Lok Sabha election and vote in the interest of the state and nation. She denied a report carried in a section of the press that she along with her son, Mr Rudolf Fernandes had campaigned for her daughter, Ms Goretti Martins and her son-in-law, Mr Minguel Martins, who contested the Taleigao panchayat polls. She said that she would raise the issue about the involvement of the Congress MLA, Mr Isidore Fernandes, in the election campaign and later in the victory procession of the Monserrate panel at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meet. Ms Fernandes also said that no one, especially women voters, were safe in the Taleigao constituency. She also introduced Ms Farida Bi, a resident of Taleigao, who alleged that a car driven by the Town and Country Planning Minister himself closely followed her car at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) colony on the day of the Taleigao panchayat election. Ms Farida Bi, who supported the Opposition candidate, said that Mr Monserrate tried to chase her away, at the time, adding that she would lodge a complaint with the police against the Minister. If anything happens to me or my children in the coming days, Mr Monserrate should be held responsible for it, she said. - Forwarded by www.goa-world.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
