According to a footnote to the article "O Padre Faria e a sua Apoteose" by
Ruy Sant'Elmo, published in the "Boletim Eclesiastico da Arquidiocese de
Goa" (Series II - Year I - N 3) of September 1942, "The bronze statue of
Fr. Faria comes out of the studio of the sculptor Kamat, native of
Portuguese India. It is already made and paid for. It awaits its
transportation to Goa, after the surpassing of thousands of bureaucratic
hurdles ...". So, the statue must have been placed "in situ" soon
afterwards, in the last quarter of 1942 or early 1943. The statue was paid
for by public subscription, so I cannot see behind its placement and the
naming of the "praca" after the Abbe any "political agenda in assuaging Goan
sentiment at that point of time".
