The accused, Maya Pati, had come to the judicial lockup at about 3.45 pm to meet her boyfriend Ronn Chayak, also an Israeli, who is an under trial in a drug case.The accused was carrying a bag with her when she entered the cell to meet her boyfriend.Suspecting something fishy, the jail staff searched the bag and found five pieces of charas tucked in polythene bags weighing 38.5 gms worth Rs 3,000 in her bag.
Jail staff then notified Mapusa police and acting on a complaint by Assistant Jailor Mahesh Fadte, a case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.Sub-Divisional Magistrate Y B Tawde also visited the judicial lockup.PI Sammy Tavares is conducting investigations into the case.
In a similar case last year, drugs were found in the possession of an undertrial
in the judicial lockup, thereby indicating the possibility of easy flow of drugs
in the lockup.
