EC DECISION TO REPLACE KESHKAMAT HAILED Former student leader Adv Aires Rodrigues has today hailed the Election Commission for directing the Goa Government to immediately replace the current Returning Officer for the North Goa Parliamentary Constituency Mr. S.S. Keshkamat. Rodrigues has stated that this decision of the Election Commission vindicates the commitment of the Election Commission of the need to ensure that the credentials of officers responsible for conducting elections is absolutely above board with only officers without any political party obligations or strings attached incharge of the election process. Adv. Rodrigues has stated it was a matter of shame that Mr. Keshkamat who was due to retire in September 2003 on attaining superanuation was granted a one-year extension at the behest of some senior BJP leaders including current North Goa BJP candidate Mr. Sripad Naik who had very strongly lobbied for Mr. Keshkamat's extension apparently in view of the impending Lok Sabha elections.
