The Election Commission is on the right track and is doing everything
possible to improve the quality of candidates aspiring to contest elections.
Candidates are now required, to file along with their nomination papers,
affidavits declaring all their assets and liabilities. An affidavit of your
criminal record has also to be filed. Just the crimes committed - not the
ones being planned.

Maybe it would be a good idea to ask all candidates to also submit a
medical fitness certificate issued by a reputable doctor. Unhealthy
aspirants and those who are close to being senile should be kept out of the
fray and asked to find another hobby.

Imposing an upper age limit for candidates would not be a bad idea and
candidates who have served two terms should be asked to move to other
pastures. But as politics seems to be the scoundrel's last resort, where
would they go?
