Goanet's founder, Herman Carneiro, should be 27 now... if I calculated correctly. That he's caught up shifting professions -- from engineering to medicine, a not-too-easy task as you would agree -- is another reality. > On our popular Goanet, one can see about 50 same faces > (including JoeGoaUk) appearing again & again. It is normal for any mailing list to have a small fraction of total members as the active participants. Participation levels on a mailing-list hovering below 5-10% is not unusual. (Keep in mind that Goanet-news, one of the mailing lists from this network, is a non-discussion, news-only list.) The challenge is how to extend this number, and make Goanet more participative. > They are the real heroes. I don't agree. Some of us, including myself, talk too much. We should work harder towards creating an environment to encourage wider participation by new members, women, silent members, those who prefer writing in the non-English languages that Goans use. Thanks Joe, the statistics were interesting. I know of a GNU/Linux program which calculates the top-poster on a Usenet newsgroup. It might have been interesting to run some such automated software here too to extract figures. Another aspect I'm personally interested in is checking out how many countries Goanet is read in.
