I sincerely thank you on behalf of the Goan community for taking the trouble of carrying our "Gummot" all the way from Goa to the USA. It is a matter of pride for us to know that our traditional musical instrument remains a unique piece in North America!
Now, here is the requested information:
To my knowledge, you can obtain a Madhiem from the following villages in Bardez:
a) Anjuna, St. Sebastian ward b) Mapusa-Duler, Saipem ward c) Sucorro, Vaddem ward
As for the documentary "Goa - A Paradise", I remember some time ago JoeGoaUk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> had posted a message on Goanet giving some names of Konkani Tiatr CDs and I think his list also included the above CD. I also recall he had mentioned prices and volunteered to mail CDs anywhere. So, I am sure Joe can help you out in this regard.
Thanks again for your interest in the "Gummot"!

Dominic,
That was an excellent piece on how the gummot is made. When in Goa in Dec 2002,
I bought one for my son who is a drummer and we had a great time experimenting
with it. We had to carefully wrap it to protect the clay pot and then we carried
it on the plane with us, not trusting it to be handled well in the baggage hold.
My friends here in the USA were delighted to see such a unique percussion instrument. AFAIK, it's the only one in N.America :-P
Two questions:
1. Where can one obtain a Madhiem in Goa? Is there any village that is better
known for making these percussion instruments more than any other?
2. How can one obtain a copy of that documentary you mentioned: Goa - A Paradise?
Thanks,
Dan
