Dear Terry,

Didn't know there was an element of *surprise* in my post (made
half in jest.) I see your point but am not sure if it is worthwhile to
recall the brands that did the rounds of Goa's pre-1961 roads - for
nostalgia or for the benefit of younger members on this forum.
Though I must, again, wonder whether there really are any youngsters
on this list, going by the current Cecil-Viv-Fred debate on the issue :-)
I was in primary school in 1961. But I do recall the following:

OPEL
AUSTIN
MORRIS
FORD
WV
PEUGEOT
SIMCA
BUICK
IMPALA
MERC-BENZ
(last two were actually used as yellow-black taxicabs here!)
and even a handful of the Japanese
DATSUN
which I heard came in a few weeks prior to Dec-1961, as had Fiat's
OM Tigrottos
(mini-buses, just three of them, that would shame a good many
saloon car of today.)

For nostalgia or whatever, Goanetters could add to that barest of lists.

If quality of the car is the criterion for *antique* value (I presumed it
was the year of manufacture) then, since you mention it, the cut-off
year of the Margao *rally* should have been pre-1947 and not pre-1961.
Because the *rally* was open to participants from outside Goa (anyone
could have driven in with a pre-1961 but post-1947 Indian made brand
you obviously do not hold in much esteem) But that's besides the point.

Issue is that all such past antique car parades in Goa (Alfonso Bond
Braganza has factually brought to fore one previous parade held
in Mapusa), were somehow described as *rallies.* The antique car
*rallies* were in fact no test of speed, as much as being a non-static
display of grace from a bygone era.

With regards/Valmiki
