Someone just informed me that Juemkars say:

"St. Esteo chuklo ek dis, deo zaunk"
(St. Stephen missed by a day to become God)

Apparently because the Feast of St. Stephen is on 26th December.

I have two questions:
1) Are there other similar sayings of Juemkars? I thought only the Moidekars would think of something so ridiculous.
2) Is the Feast of a Saint celebrated on his Birthday or on the day he was canonized?

Cecil

Well, young Cecil,

1) There are those nice ones in league with lady-fingers/bhende, but you know they may not quite pass the tastes of our Canon of Elders regulating/relegating prurience.

2) Not so much that would be conducive to mirth: Both take themselves far too seriously to allow for entertaining levity.

3) In most cases the feast day of a Christian saint is on his/hers death aniversary. A few exceptions have other days alloted them. Some vary in the B.C.P callendar and the orthodox.

A few saints are commemorated on both their dates of birth and death/matyrdom.

Still some more (three?), Ss Joseph, John the Baptist and another one have two feast days each.

B. V. Mary tops them all in the number of feast days/solemnities the church accords her.

Alfred
