Goan Easter in Vashi By: Roopa Raveendran http://web.mid-day.com/metro/vashi/2004/april/81270.htm
It was Easter Sunday and Goa Feast, the quaint restaurant in Sector 11, Vashi, was bustling with activity as customers trooped in for their Goan Food Festival. Reasonably priced at Rs 150 per plate, the gourmands relished a typical Goan fare. Goan families especially welcomed it. “Usually it’s the just three of us for Easter. Instead of spending it at home, we decided to go out and enjoy ourselves,” say the D’souza family, residents of Sector 4, Vashi. “This place serves authentic Goan delicacies,” says Colin D’souza. The D’ souza family loved the fare so much that they had their Easter lunch and dinner at the restaurant. A big bunch of youngsters was also bingeing at the food festival. “We are regulars here and frequent this place at least once every two weeks. When we learnt of the food festival, we didn’t want to miss it. The chicken xacuti and surmai are absolutely out of this world,” says Sara R, a Vashi resident. Another Goan food gourmet Mathew Easo often orders from Goa Feast. “I often order food from Goa Feast. I especially enjoy their stuffed chicken and love their curried prawns too,” says this Vashi resident. As part of Easter celebrations, the menu promised a delectable array of Goan delicacies. Amar Kumar and Maheshwari Golconda, the proprietors, had charted out the entire menu in typical Goan style. The customers were welcomed with sol kadi, made from kokum juice, coconut milk and chopped garlic, which gives it a somewhat pungent taste. Served chilled, it was heavenly for parched throats — the main course of chicken xacuti in a thick gravy, coconut-based curried prawns and golden fried surmai served with rice and typical Goan pav proved divine. But vegetarians weren’t disappointed either! The two vegetarian side dishes comprising dry moong dal and vegetable korma were equally delicious. We polished the meal with Goan layered cake and vanilla ice cream and all we could say thereafter was susegad! ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
