> Its indeed a shame one of the most remarkable landmarks in Goa is being sacrificed for the sake of IFFI. No doubt its a matter of great pride to hold this event annually. But at what cost !!! Campal grounds have bred considerable number of FOOTBALLERS who made the STATE as well as the Country proud. Sports is seen as an excellent avenue to chanelize ones energy into something fruitful and worthy but not anymore , parking lots departmental stores cinema halls these consumerist structures are taking precedence in its place. Mr. Parikar an IIT BOMBAY. graduate stooping so low is a disgrace. I am SURE if sanity prevails and the pros and cons are laid, any RATIONAL human would oppose the demolition of this wonderful LANDMARK. Guess all work and no play has made Mr. CM an anti sports guy. I hope and pray he realises his folly and GIFT the PANJIMITES a renovated sophisticated OLYMPIC stadium. I think we should all pray the rosary for our CM which would help him to make the RIGHT discissons in the interest of GOA and the GOANS. AMEN. This ground is there since generations and has nurtured many players who have excelled not only at the State, but also at the international level. Further, a lot of sentiments are attached to this playground due to its adorning nature and demolishing this ground for other purpose is to be likened to a man who demolished a house so as to bring the rich man's camel inside the house through the narrow door. Let better sense and sanity prevail. The Campal stadium holds a promising future for sportsperson of this generation and also for the generations to come and the government in all seriousness has to do a rethought to maintain the status quo. Such type of wanton destruction is uncalled for and unwarranted. The conversion of this playground for other purpose should not take place, so feel many sportspersons who have called upon me to air their grievances. Having represented the State team at the National level in football, I too firmly endorse the views of the people that the government instead of demolishing this stadium should take measures to develop this ground by providing it with better infrastructure for the benefit and development of sports in the State. Isidore Fernandes MLA, Poinguinim Constituency. Date: 24th March 2004 COMMENTS: Marshall Mendonca makes two references in his post. 1. That the CM (Manohar Parrikar) is an IIT BOMBAY graduate, and 2. That we all should pray 'rozary' so he may take the right decisions. W.R.T. (1), It is true that Manohar Parrikar has been touted far too much to be the first IIT graduate CM of Goa. And by all means, Goa should have been proud of this fact. But the unfortunate part of it all is that Manohar Parrikar has shown us, Goans, and to the world that he has completely forgotten whatever he learnt at IIT BOMBAY, including the subject of melting copper and other metals (Metallurgy). This is because, any human brain which is subjected to the RSS bombardment for long leaves no room for any other values or learning and promptly displaces, nay ejects them and takes the brain over completely and totally. It would be better if we never use the word 'IIT' associated with Manohar Parrikar less we degrade it. W.R.T. (2) there is a wholesome need, not only to say 'Rosaries but to chant 'Bajaans' , say 'Namaazes' offer Pujas and Masses to implore to the Almighty God to spare us, Goans, his eschewed decisions and to throw this abomination ' the RSS-BJP' along with Manohar Parrikar and his chamchas out of Goa specifically, and out of Delhi in general, in the coming General Elections. There is hope still that 'HE' will grant us this WORTHY REQUEST.
