The film would be first released in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh across South India from May 7 and later in Goa, Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi, informed veteran film producer and President of Kintop Pictures Deepak Nayar, while announcing the release at a press conference in Chennai on Sunday.
The release of the Hollywood blockbuster � which has generated mixed reviews across the globe � in Goa will be significant to the tiny State on two counts. Besides having a sizeable Catholic population of about 4 lakh, Goa is the venue of the International Film Federation of India (IFFI). �We were delighted when the Censor Board cleared the film with an `A� certificate and without any cuts,� Nayar was quoted in the PTI.
Any cut would have made screening of the historic film, directed by actor Mel Gibson, meaningless, he said adding it was not a film of religious propagation, as it did not dwell on the miracles performed by Christ or Christianity.
Since Gibson insisted that the film should not be dubbed in any language, it was being presented in its original form with English sub-titles. �We are working on having subtitles in regional languages for the benefit of viewers�, he said. ------------------------------------- HERALD 20/4/04 page 4 -------------------------------------
