Gomantak Times, Saturday, 24 April, 2004 Page 2: By Staff Reporter. PANAJI: Inacio Elizabeth Antao, an activist of Goa Su-Raj Party alleged that he was mercilessly beaten up and arrested by the Colva police acting on a false complaint lodged by Sports Minister Mickky Pacheco on Thursday. Speaking to reporters in the presence of Goa Su-Raj Party president Floriano Lobo, Antao, a resident of Betalbatim, said that the incident took place on Thursday night when he was returning home in a tourist taxi, which collided against an oncoming car belonging to the minister. He said that the minister got furious and on noticing him started abusing and allegedly threatened him to withdraw a writ petition filed against the minister in the High Court. Antao said that he had filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking to revive the case against those involved in burning his shack at Betalbatim nearly two years ago. He alleged that the sports minister was one of the suspects in the case and that the Colva police were shielding him. He said that when he went to the police station to dodge his complaint, the police registered it as a non-cognizable (NC) complaint and instead arrested him acting on a counter complaint lodged by the minister. He said that nobody was above law and demanded that the police should take action against the minister. He told reporters that during the last two years, he and his family members were harassed by the minister and was even retrenched from the government service. The Goa Su-Raj Party president condemned this incident and demanded action against the sports minister immediately.
