Every election has its causalties and this Lok Sabha one has had quite a few. The
first casualty
was North Goa Collector Mr. S.S. Kashkamat whom the Election Commission
ordered to be removed as being an officer on extension in service his impartiality
and credibility as Returning officer could be in question.

It has been a long wait for the people of Goa for the results of the polls but it must
be
a even more agonising wait for S.S. Kashkamat who must be anxiously waiting to try
and lobby his return to the coveted post of North Goa Collector as soon as the
election tamasha is officially over.

It is left to be seen if Chief Minister reads the very essence of the Election
Commission's
concern and does not return an officer on extension to such a senior position. We
could
then say that the Chief Minister really believes in Good Governance. A litmus test for
Mr Manohar Parrikar.

The Loutolim Sarpanch also lost his chair because he canvassed for a different
party candidate much to the dislike of majority of panchas who decided to settle
scores by voting him out.

There will be definitely some more who would have to face the side effects of the
recently held polls in the coming weeks including the ones whose election bills may not
be settled till the next election.

13th May will break the hearts of those who loose. There are just two seats and
there is no room for the third to rejoice. Some will loose their deposits too
but for the habitual contenders there is a ray of hope that they could try their luck
the next time around, perhaps on a different party ticket and with a bigger budget
complemented by some muscle power. These seem to be pre-requisites for success
in any election.
