Am I the only one being bombarded (spammed) with porn related e-mail?

This is so pervasive today that it is hard to see how young children with e-mail accounts can be protected from seeing graphic x-rated images?

There was interesting article entitled "Stiff competition" that appeared in the Toronto Star on June 4. I think it is worth a read if only to see the effect porn has on today's society - particularly the young.

Here are some quotes:

"Internet porn sites are one of the fastest growing addictions,"

Some say porn is actually replacing the real thing, deadening the male libido in relation to real women . . . . .

Porn "doesn't whet men's appetites," warns feminist writer Naomi Wolf. "It turns them off the real thing ...leading men to see fewer and fewer women as `porn-worthy.'"

She suggests that the power and allure of images of naked woman have, for the first time in history, "supplanted that of real naked women."

We've arrived at a place, she concludes, where "real naked women are just bad porn."

Aside from the religious viewponts regarding porn, we need to be conscious of the effect that porn has on the young - particularly men. The breakdown of families is reaching epidemic proportions. Goan couples are not immune. A very sad story was brought to my attention just last week. The jilted party came to see me for advice. Apparently the other partner was having numerous affairs on the side. They are now filing for divorce. I wonder if porn is fuelling this trend to some extent where one keeps looking for partners like the models portrayed in porn pics. because the partners they have in real life are considered "just bad porn".

I do not know what the answer is . . . . but it is getting serious and it needs to be talked about rather than shied away from.
