Headline: Driver drowns during beach celebration Source: Gulf Daily News (Bahrain). 14 June. http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/Articles.asp?Article=84184&Sn=BNEW By VINITHA VISWANATH Text: An Indian father drowned while celebrating a friend's birthday at Al Jazair beach, near Zallaq. Cajetan Silveira, 53, was swimming with three of his friends when he disappeared under the water. His friends dragged him to the shore and tried to resuscitate him, while others called an ambulance from the BDF Hospital. Paramedics tried in vain to revive him for about 20 minutes, before declaring him dead at the scene. The incident happened around 6pm on Friday. Mr Silveira, from Bombay, had been in Bahrain for 25 years and was a member of the Young Goans Club for 22 years. He was working as a driver for Al Jamea, the dealers of National Panasonic in Bahrain. Club president Cassius Pereira said his death was a great loss to the community. "We were very shocked to hear the news. Mr Silveira had always been in the forefront of all the club's activities and was a guide to the club's younger generation," said Mr Pereira. Mr Silveira's son Jacob, who works in Dubai, flew to Bahrain yesterday to arrange for the body to be flown home to Bombay, where Mr Silveira's wife and daughter live. A special mass is being held at the Sacred Heart Church at 6pm tonight and club members, friends and well-wishers are urged to attend. ------------------------------------------------- Forwarded by Eddie Fernandes
