No one is against the rehabilitation and a humane treatment to the Baina sex workers
but what was opposed was them sought to be moved to a very densely populated and
upcoming Ribandar.

It made no sense moving the problems of Baina to a venue a kilometre away from a high
school and just 100 Mts. from the prestigious Goa Institute of Management besides
being next door to a temple and the proposed National highway.

Ribandar residents were very firm in opposing even a temporary rehabilitation there
because of not wanting to take a risk with yet another false assurance from the
Government.

The very strong sentiments of Ribandarites on this issue was made known to the NGO's
working at Baina so also the Goa State Women's commission and the Government infact
would have been doing great injustice to the Baina sex workers by virtually
imprisoning them at the Ribandar premises in utter violation of their human rights.

The manner in which the government has bull-dozed Baina without complying with the due
process of law is outrageous so is the ruthless treatment given to the local MLA of
that area Mr Carl Vaz and social activists Datta Naik, Adv. Albertina Almeida and
others.
