The original journals were Brandbright RSA2 rigid white metal castings. You might want to look at Ozark Miniatures' 7/8n2 OM-578 rigid journals. These are nice looking and sturdy, although you'll need to mount them on wooden pillow blocks to provide spacing for the wheels. They are also available with a bronze bushing which I recommend for a driven axle. You should check the axle hole, too, to make sure that it is bored deep enough for the axle end.

Ozark makes (and Hartford too?) nice sprung journals. If you want to experiment a little the springing feature might impart an interesting motion to your loco as it chugs along.
