It's strictly a matter of physics. To get the bandwidth, you need the higher frequencies. To get through the trees you need either lower frequencies or much higher power. They only way we are going to see what we need is if the FCC opens up some Unlicensed bands with an order or two of magnitude more power in the lower population areas (<20K population).

Hmm maybe I should try am a good few hours ahead of both of you ;)

And I think the future of the internet/isp's is to combine
voice/video/data which is of course what 99% of ppl think,
hopefully that will start becoming a reality in the next 12
months. Voip is here, video is only a step away. Just need
the costs for video to come down...

We need NLOS gear that goes through foilage at up to 15+ miles and runs at 20+ mbps. If we cant reach the user base none of these other things like video and VOIP matter. We are moving to 900 gear out here in the sticks since we have lots of hills and trees. Our custommers are mostly used to 24k dialup and simply want broadband. Currently the 900 gear is the only way to reach these users and it is nowhere near fast enough to do video or provide ultra highspeed service.

So does anyone see much chance of foilage friendly ultra highspeed gear in
the future? I am not talking about the 5.8/x.x OFDM that uses reflections
in metro areas. We only have trees and hills in rural areas. Of course I
could move shop to a metro area where OFDM or something would work, T1/T3
bandwidth is cheap and I have tons of competition.
