While we are on this subject, let me state some points: I have seen people of different faiths, attend the Perpetual Succor Novena Service every Wednesday at St. Michaels church, Mahim Mumbai. They offer garlands/candles and devoutly join in the service with the Christians. Recently I have seen Fr. Charles conducting the Hindi service in the evenings, for which mostly Hindus and Hindi speaking people other faiths attend. Fr. Charles was first to introduce Bharat Natyam in the Church (Bandra)in Mumbai. I had seen him (20 years ago) performing infront of the alter. He even says the mass sitting on the floor with the harmonium and sings the bajans in praise of the Lord....a typical hindu style. He has also been influential in getting top Bollywood singers like Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shailendra Singh and others to participate in the Choir at St. Theresa's church Bandra. Every year for Xmas/new year midnight mass these singers come forward without fail to sing the Hymns in Hindi with the help of recorded live music...there has been no objection from any of the parishioners, infact they all like the service. Now as for the case of Hindu Rituals at Fatima, as Eugene says its still not clear wether they were performing inside the shrine or close to the shrine. It is also not clear if they were venerating our Lady or their God. I will definately not agree to them venerating their God in the shrine. But if a place is alloted to them near to the shrine by Fatima authorities then I see no harm to the Christians... Let me state that a few years ago the Pope had allowed the Muslims to build a Mosque in Rome. I believe this is in similar interests to Hindus....to show the Religious Tolerance of Christian Church..
