GL responds: Nice Post and thanks for the information. However a major way to reduce the effects of the unscrupulous elements preying on tourists is for native Goans to also help and take the initiative to report any unscrupulous activity they see to the appropriate authorities. After all it's the native Goans that have to protect their 'Goose that lays the golden egg'. The Goans certainly should not feel "it is not my business". Good business is to get the repeat customer that returns again and again. Native Goans should not feel it humorous or pity that some tourist is being fleeced. They should be proactive - like you are. Goans both in and out of the tourist industry should be part of the 'native watchdog group' and be attentive to the big resource that God has given them - rather than just exploiting it. Regards, GL SOUTH GOA PUBLIC INTEREST ACTION GROUP: During the tourist season nearly eight months commencing from 27/09/2004 until 27/05/2004 (advent of south westerly monsoons) it is often time opportune for a few unscrupulous elements in the hospitality industry to "kill the goose that lays the golden eggs" and earn Goa a bad name. This time around with the Exposition of the sacred relics of St Francis Xavier scheduled for 21st November 2004 until 2nd January 2005 and the Goa International Film Festival 29th November to 9th December, 2004 many innocent tourists could suffer at the hands of such unscrupulous elements. The State law enforcing machinery can least be expected to exercise checks on these elements as they lack the political will to do so. Even the assurance by the Chief Minister of Goa to introduce a metered fares for Tourist taxis has not seen the light of the day. We will be posting a TRAVEL ADVISORY to assist the tourists to this beautiful land. We also intend to assist those desirous on any issue they may need advise. All this is intended FREE of cost.
