Hi Bernado, Thanks for your post addressed to me. You sound so much more rational when you explain yourself in a short paragraph rather than a one-liner. As you know, I am comparatively new to cyber-Goa and do not carry the burden of past information or controversy. I read what I see! The fact that a scientist (historian) has changed his/her views as new information is available is commendable and praiseworthy. So personally I would not hold that against the historian. Or was the posts one Goan against another Goan? The present series of FACTUAL write-ups on Goan history pre-1961 and the role of Goans in that period are to me very refreshing. If you (or anyone) have any more specifics to add, you are welcome to add your research (not one liner). This especially applies to references I often see of Goans with big titles and / or 'elected' to Portuguese parliament like Dr. Froilano de Melo and others. However my impression is there were never any elections held in Goa. So you see I stand to be enlightened and corrected. It is my understanding that Dr. De Melo rubbed Salazar et al the wrong way for seeking greater civil rights for Goans and its independence. So perhaps Dr. De Melo was 'eliminated' from Goa by advancing/ appointing him to parliament in Lisbon as Goa's representative. Then he was likely further 'promoted' to exile in Brazil in 1951. This is the price of being colonized. It is interesting that the same group of Luso-Goans that admire and hail Dr. De Melo ALSO admire and hail 20th century Portugal and Salazar. If GoaNetters are reading this and are confused, please join the crowd! Ami Goenkars murree!!! :=)) Oscar Noronha puzzles me. He denigrates the historian for his anti-Portuguese bias. But if my memory serves me right, his stand (from his posts) was and continues to be supportive of the actions of Nehru in 1961. Also Oscar denounces the Portuguese regime for the suffering of Goans pre-1961. So is Oscar being, "If I cannot do it (research and present Goan history) I will make sure another Goan will not do it either"? I am still waiting to see all (and your) responses to Helga. Regards
