Press Release from the Konkan Railway website: http://www.konkanrailway.com/website/bulliten/press_terzagi_workshop_01102004.htm October 1st 2004 2nd KARL TERZHAGI MEMORIAL WORKSHOP ON KONKAN RLY Due to the unpredictable nature of the soil and strata of Konkan region which affects train services every monsoon, Konkan Railway organizes Karl Terzhagi Memorial workshop to bring in experts from all over the country to pool knowledge to probe possible solutions. The 2nd such Workshop has been organized on 2nd October along with Institution of Engineers (I), Maharashtra State Centre, and Indian Geotechnical Society, Mumbai Chapter at Kohinoor Samudra Beach Resort, Ratnagiri. The theme of the Workshop is "Challenges in Laterite Deposit and Jointed Basalts". The Workshop will be chaired by Member Engineering, Railway Board - Shri S P S Jain and will be attended by experts from all over the country, viz Dr. Venkatachalam (IIT/Powai), Dr. R K Katti (Prof Emeritus, IIT/Powai), Dr N V Nayak (Gammon India), Shri D M Dewaikar (IIT/Powai), Dr. T Ramamurthy (Ex-Prof. IIT/Delhi), Dr. S R Kulkarni (Prof, College of Engg/Pune), Dr. M V Khire (Principal Research Engineer CSRE, IIT/Powai), etc. Konkan Railway also gives Karl Terzhagi Memorial Award on this occasion to the author of the most outstanding paper submitted. The award is Rs. 25,000/- and a citation. Konkan Railway has implemented many technical solutions so far to solve the geo-technical problems faced in the region. The Workshop will start at 1000 hrs on 2nd October. -----
