Mr. Bernardo,
if you come to Goa, I will take you around the streets of the defence colony, and introduce you to all the old retired Goan Colonels, Brigadiers, commodores, Majors, and Wing Commanders who sip their sundowners with me, and walk their dogs twice a day, hoping for some excitement in their otherwise sedate lives. I can even introduce you to a retired Goan Chief of the Army. And there are no more neat whitewashed houses--the pension of retired service officers permits painting only once in 5 years. And the neat crisscrossed roads are badly in need of repair.
regards,
Gilbert Menezes.
btw, the word neocolonialist just doesnt apply to all of us old men with walking sticks.
Who are anglican Indians?

For decades I heard of the defence colony with neat
white washed houses and clean criss crossed roads.

But who are the these defence colony? How did they go
about colonizing Porvorim? Who let them in? Is the
land owned by the Communidades? Are these people
anglican-indians?

One of the sons was a captain of the Goan hockey team.
Our own Goans have no capacity to lead?

Is the defence colony a branch of the neo-colonialism
where Goans just keep quiet and wait and do nothing?

Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

B. Colaço
