Mega Konkani Programme - Konkan Daiz Yatra
Konkani is a multi-religious, multi-caste and
multi-dialectal character language represented by as
many as three religious groups namely Hindus, Muslims
and Christians consisting of TWENTY major castes and
several sub-castes and sects. Each sect speaks Konkani
with its own different dialect. Hence the Konkani
culture is very rich with so many ethnic differences
who are spread over the coastal coast from Gujarat
from the north to Kerala to the south.
The oldest Konkani organization Konkani Bhasha Mandal
Mumbai (R) which was started in the year 1939 by
Konkani stalwarts like Shenoi Goem-bab, Bakibab
Borkar, Prof. Armando Menezes, Dr. Sumitra Mangesh
Katre is in its heels to prepare for a mega show to
unite Konkani�s under one roof. This great show is
named as Konkan Daiz Yatra in order to prepare for a
pilgrimage that will pull together the rich Konkani
treasure and makes an eye opener to every Konkani
individual who is diverted from his roots with the
forgetfulness of greatness that is within his mother
tongue Konkani.
Mr. P. N. Shanbhag the president and Mr. J. B. Moraes
the secretary with their strong Konkani Bhasha Mandal
team are working day and night to make this event to
be represented by all ethnic group of Konkani people
on be half of 12th Konkani Recognition day. Thus the
organising committee has been formed for the programme
with the award winning reputed businessman Mr. Albert
W. D'Souza of Printannia fame the president and Mrs.
Grace Pinto of Rayan International, Mr. John D'Silva,
Mr. S. D. Nayak, Mr. S. A. Shanbhag, Mr. P. M. Shenoy
and Mr. Ratnakar Gokarn being the vice presindents.
The programme will consists of A GRAND MUSICAL
PROGRAMME with Dance Ballet showing the culture of all
ethnic groups of Konkani presented by more than 200
well trained artists.
