As expected at the initial stages we will have teething problems. If we undertake to promote Goan writings, we are perceived as promoting ourselves. Yet how do we promote Goan writers if there is no audience to read Goan writings? I am on board with the association and anything PRACTICAL that will promote the cause. I think the major effort right now is to encourage the Presidents of the various WGD across the world to include a Keynote speaker (s) at their functions and perhaps include a forum of Goan writers' symposium at their celebrations. Also an essay writing contests for different age groups on some aspect of Goa - history, geography, culture, economics etc, will do justice to the Goan talent. The symposium and the essay contests will publicize our efforts and attract potential young and not-so-young Goan writers to pursue their interests. It is difficult for us to promote ourselves. Hence Rene as you circulate information to the WGD presidents encouraging them on their celebrations please includes the writers' association. As you know, we are not doing it for our benefit. Traveling to these meetings involves a lot of time, energy, expense and inconvenience. I personally will do it within limits to promote the Goan cause. My experience however is to get the Goan president to share the microphone. :=)) In the mean time, the writers of the region (North America or EU) should get together and plan a strategy to promote writing and marketing in their region.
