An announcement on goanet that some former students and friends of the lyceum will commemorate in Lisbon 150 years of the former central lyceum of Goa on 6th November is a good opportunity to get some feedback of the goanetters: (1) Was any goanetter a former student of that lyceum or had any direct contact with that institution? Would anyone confirm Orlando Ribeiro's assessment of that institution in his "Relatrio" of 1956(Report to the Government)? (Extracts were posted by me to Goanet some months ago) <<o liceu que devia ser um dos mais vivos focos de cultura portuguesa no Ultramar talvez o que, muito justamente, possui pior reputao?>> [the lyceum which ought to have been a vital centre of the Portuguese culture overseas is perhaps, and justly so, the worst reputed?] (2) What were the pedagogical criteria or the study programmes? Were they atuned to the interests of Goan natives at large? (3) Could we have an assessment of any of its prominent Goan teachers (with dates) as having played any significant role in Goa's history? Only well informed or documented responses will be appreciated. Teotonio R. de Souza
