I would also like to thank the Goans of Pakistan for expressing their SOLIDARITY with Goans all over the GOANWORLD. By doing so , The Goans of Pakistan have given us an example which I am sure many of us will follow in the years to come. The Goans of PAKISTAN have come TOGETHER despite the difficulties they are faced with , they have made us PROUD to be GOANS.They have shown us what TOGETHERNESS means ! Three buses departed at 7.45 p.m. from meeting points at Anthonian, Bliss and Rimpa Apartments and safely arrived after a 1 = hour journey to the Firpo farm. On arrival, the Executive Committee Members of the Goinkars Own Academy set up the place for the event. It was a wonderful sight to see such a large crowd comprising of young and old to assemble on a single platform to celebrate "WORLD GOA DAY". Congratulations to Rene Barreto for his enthusiasm and persistence for not only for starting this universal day but ensuring it kept flourishing. Were it not for Rene passing this unique sense of togetherness to our fellow brethren "WORLD GOA DAY" would not have been a reality. The evening commenced with Recitation of the Holy Rosary followed by a welcome address by Deborah Santamaria, President of the Goinkars Own Academy. The President in her welcome address highlighted that in this journey of togetherness, more goans of Pakistan should come forward to keep our culture, music, cuisine and most of all our Konkani alive. This year's theme being "Job Opportunities for Goans" she urged all present that we should network with each other, be it within the business community or as best as they can to help Goans with seeking job opportunities. Through the Goinkars Own Academy website, we can also assist those seeking opportunities for further enhancement in their careers. The President of the Goinkars Own Academy mentioned that at the forthcoming functions they will invite? Doctors and Nurses to speak about prevention and cures of common diseases and ailments.? Speakers from various business organizations to provide career advice. The Goinkars Own Academy not only arranges fun filled events but also reaches out to the less fortunate. Being compassionate to those in need are traits that bind us together. As a caring social organization we are proud to be Goans and should extend this togetherness with one another. This was followed by a welcome speech by Chief Guest Joseph Pereira, he said the Goinkars Own Academy must be congratulated for its two wonderful insightful choices while the theme Job Opportunities for Goans is both important and topical. The site for the "WORLD GOA DAY" Celebrations at FIRPO FARM is perhaps, as a close a reflection of the physical attributes of Goa as is possible in this city of Karachi Thereafter, the entertainment segment of the program commenced with a beautiful song of Vengaboys "We like to Party" to which three children danced namely, Naomi Santamaria, Elronna Fernandes, & Rochelle D'Souza which placed the audience in a very receptive mood. The girls dressed in bright colorful skirts and straw hats brought back memories of our beautiful Goa. This was followed by a solo "Padri Vigar" sung by Matthew Desa from Bombay/Mumbai-India. Then came yet another Solo " November 16" sung by Stanley D'Lima, followed by a Re-Mix "Dole Dole & Mandos" performed by Amanda Croning, Tiffany Fernando, Michelle Fernandes, Whitney Bob and Renita D'Souza. Mathew Desa sung two Solo numbers "Duddu Duddu" & "Mai Teresa", followed by a Poem "Table & Chair" performed by Cordelia & Demetria John. After this, a short skit written by Claressa D'Silva "World Goa Day" performed by Francis D'Silva, Melba Pinto and Nascimento Santamaria. The children once again mesmerized the crowd when they performed the Dandiya "Mujkho Mil Gaya Mera" performed by Elronna Fernandes, Michelle Fernandes, Rochelle D'Souza, Naomi Santamaria, Nikita Fernandes & Kristen Fernandes. Then came three Solo's "You Can't Go to Heaven" "Giddayap" & Pakistan Forever sung by Stanley D'Lima. Yet another dance performance to the tune of "The Ding Ding Song" by Amanda Croning, Tiffany Fernando, Emerald D'Souza, Nikita Fernandes Michelle Fernandes & Renita D'Souza kept the crowd moving and alive. However, as Naomi Santamaria accompanied by her Mum Deborah Santamaria came to sing the Theme Song written by Basalio Magno "Proud to be a Goan". She received the warmest applause from the audience. Deborah sang the verse composed by her in Konkanim to this theme song which was sung at this event. Finally, a Solo Konkani song by Francis D'Silva and thereafter a Duet by Melba Pinto and Francis D'Silva "Peticot Ponak Naka" was performed. After a scrumptious BBQ dinner, a "Profession Mania" was held, as the first couple Marie Anna and Gerry Croning acted as Mr. & Mrs. Phool Wale, the second couple Julie D'Souza and Anthony Dias as Kunbi Jaqui ani Jaquin. The fourth a Fruit Walla, Elizabeth Pereira and the final a family of Beggars Lovita, Marshall, Nikita & Kristen Fernandes. The Judges for this event were Mr. Mathew Desa from Bombay, Valentine Fernandes and Sabby Rodrigues. The 2nd Runner up was Kunbi Jaqui ani Jakin and the 1st prize went to the family of Beggars. Thereafter the D.J. Fabian Bob kept the crowd on their feet upto 3.30 a.m. with his oldies Goldies and feet stomping music. 24th October 2004 A delicious breakfast of Channa Puri, Halwa with a hot cup of tea was served at 8.30 a.m. thereafter registration for the sports activities began. A Cricket match commenced at 10.30 a.m. The captains for the "10 a side teams" were Nascimento Santamaria and Gavin D'lima. The match evenly played by both teams was sternly umpired by Valentine Fernandes and good score board keeping by Victoria Noronha had its moments of laughter and tension amongst the players and crowd, as runs were hit, wide and no balls were bowled and catches were dropped. The winning team was awarded a prize Cup, while the best batsman Fabian Bob and best bowler Joshua Fernandes received P-Caps and Wall Clocks. The Water basket ball was held at 12 p.m. and the winning team members Marshall Fernandes, Fabian Bob, Felix D'Souza, Ryan Smith, Malcolm Corning, Anthony Dias, Angelo Misquita, Jason Fonseca and Kevin were presented with "TCS" P-caps. After the initial knockout rounds amongst the participants in Table tennis which began at 3 p.m. Nassy Santamaria won the finals and was given prize cup and a wall clock from TCS. Marshall Fernandes the Runner Up for this event and got a Wall Clock from TCS. Lunch was served along side the swimming pool at 2 pm with delicious menu of Biryani, Shami Kebabs, salad and raita. To relax after a heavy meal, a round of TAMBOLA with attractive prizes was played by young and old. Finally as tea and snack time was drawing near, the Goankars Own Academy held a lucky draw session for all, around 190 gifts items was distributed as young and old gathered holding onto their lucky coupons to pick their prizes which was an assortment of branded Pens, Toothpaste, Shampoo, Wallets, Barbie Bags, Barbie Dolls, Dish wash Sponges, Watches, Key chains, P-Caps and Mugs etc. At 5 p.m. delicious Samosas and sponge cake was served which downed with hot cups of tea. Finally, the President of the GOANKARS OWN ACADEMY announced the close of the two day event, thanking the members and participants for being cooperative and making the entire event a thorough success, which was enjoyed by all.
