DIOCESAN COMMUNICATIONS DAY AT MAPUSA: The Goa Archdiocese celebrated the
Diocesan Communications Day in Mapusa this year. Rev Fr Olavo Velho Pereira
of the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications delivered the homily at the
8.30 am mass at St Jerome's church in Mapusa today. "Our whole intent is to
get through the theme - Family and Media: Risk and Richness - announced by
the Pope. Being a significant and relevant theme we wanted everyone to come
closer, not only the parishioners but even non-Christians, in whatever
celebrations held. Through this exercise we hope that our families will be
strengthened to guide their children and the youth in using the media the
proper way. Many values propagated by the media are not necessarily the
right values. Hence, the parents themselves should know what are the right
values and the wrong values," said Fr Olavo. He added that Mapusa was chosen
as this year's venue because it is "a lively deanery and the parish priest
Fr Amandio Valadares is quite active in bringing the parishioners together".
After the mass, a small cultural programme was held at the Church complex
