GOACOM DAILY NEWS CLIPPINGS Nov 15, 2004 GOACOM VIDEO at http://www.goacom.com/news TRAGEDY STRIKES TWO PUNE FAMILIES: Two families hailing from Chinchwad, Pune, staying in Shantivan Building No.7, who were on a tour to Goa, paid with their lives on the killer roads of this State when their Maruti van met with a ghastly accident as it collided with a Hyderabad-bound Paulo Travels bus (driven at breakneck speed) at Mahakhajan, near Colvale bridge on November 14 at about 3.45 pm. The bodies of three family members of the Purohits and three family members of the Gadgils were mutilated presenting a horrible sight. One woman's body had the head severed from the torso, while two other bodies of the deceased were crushed and flung out of the van. Nitin Maheshwar Purohit (41), his wife Jayshree (37) and their 11-year-old daughter Neha; Sanjeev Gadil (40), who was driving the van, and his wife Vaidhavi (35) - died on the spot while Sushant Purohit (17), Mrunmayi Gadil (11) and Maitreyi Gadgil (34) were injured. Maitreyi succumbed to her injuries later. PANCHAYATS TURNING INTO 'FAMILY RAJ': 'Family raj' is a thumb rule in some of the panchayats of the State where more than one member from the same family get elected to the Village Panchayat. In fact, reservation for women in panchayats has proved to be a blessing in disguise to politically ambitious local leaders who field their wives, sisters and sister-in-laws. As per the constitutional requirements, 457 wards have been reserved for women in the State., while one-third of the offices of the sarpanchas and deputy Sarpanchas have been reserved for women by rotation. (H) CM FOR DEVELOPING TOURISM CIRCUITS: The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar, said that circuits can be developed between the states of Goa, Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra for improvement in their tourism industry. He also mentioned that Kerala, which is generally perceived as the major competitor of Goa in tourism industry, should function as the supporter of Goa in the field. In fact, he noted, the charter flights landing in Goa can benefit Kerala and tourists visiting Kerala can later visit Goa. Therefore, the terminology 'decennial' used in certain quarters, while referring to the Expositions, is incorrect.The Church should seriously ponder over this issue and if possible, hold 'permanent' Exposition of the sacred relics of "Goencho Saib" in future. As she did not respond to telephonic calls, her son-in-law Joseph Fernandes, also residing at Pintovaddo, went to check and informed the police when she did not open the door. The State government, with an aim to prevent misuse of the net by criminals, has made it mandatory for cyber cafes to have record of all net users, failing which police can impound the licence of the internet parlours.A surfer needs to display his identity card at the cyber parlour or be photographed by a web camera by the attendant before he logs on the net. His image and records have to be compulsorily maintained for a year, a notification by State ID department says.
