She also said that vital communication links such as adequate internet facilities and software programs have not been installed even though the State government had been asked to provide these by 1 November. Talking to Gomantak Times on November 18, she said "Delegates are getting panicky as we have not been bale to get in touch with them since the last four days," said a visibly upset Neelam Kapur. "We are more or less satisfied but office facilities still need to be put in place," she added. (GT) AR REHMAN'S MUSICAL TO OPEN IFFI: The 35th International Film Festival of India will be inaugurated with a bang on November 29 with the gala show of music and dance by Mr AR Rehman, whose music has transcended Indian boundaries. Noted film star and Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner, Mr Dilip Kumar, who will be the chief guest for the function, will inaugurate the IFFI in the presence of the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Mr Jaipal Reddy, and others at the Kala Akademy, which is the main venue of the IFFI. (NT) CITY TRAFFIC PLAN: A Carnival-like atmosphere will prevail on the opening day of IFFI 2004 along the riverfront and the traffic would be diverted through the city's inner roads. (H) AI'S NON-STOP FLIGHTS TO LONDON: Air India is introducing four new non-stop flights per week on Mumbai-London-Mumbai sector, from 29 November, 04. The travel on Mumbai-London-Mumbai sector will cost Rs.19,990, which will be valid for outbound travel up to 31 January 05, on these particular flights. The weekly Air India Goa-Mumbai flight No.AI-854 on Thursday mornings offers a convenient connection at Mumbai to the new London flight for passengers traveling from Goa. Similarly, passengers leaving London on AI-160 on Tuesdays can travel through, to Goa connecting AI-855 Mumbai-Goa on Wednesdays. (NT) GOVT NEGLECTING PORVORIM PLATEAU: NARVEKAR: It may be the fastest growing satellite town in the State and yet the Porvorim plateau continues to be backward in many respects. The internal roads are in a pathetic condition. There is no health centre, no ground of international standard nor modern facilities like indoor stadium or swimming pool. The garbage collection is in a mess, water supply is irregular and encroachments are common in open spaces. Local MLA Dayanand Narvekar alleged that the present government has systematically sidelines the development of Porvorim plateau. (H) NEW BOOK ON OLD GOA MONUMENTS: A book titled "Magnificent Monuments of Old Goa" will be launched during the Exposition of the sacred relics of St Francis Xavier. The book has been authored by Mr Patrick J Lobo and has a foreword by Fr Delio de Mendonca, SJ. The book is an extensively researched hardbound coffee table book illustrated with sketches, plans and colour photographs providing a treasure house of information about the churches, chapels and convents of Old Goa. (NT) DISTRICT HOSPITAL IN MARGAO: The government has finally decided to set up the district hospital for South Goa on the outskirts of Margao city, with the area presently housing the Hospicio Hospital and TB Hospital not finding favour with the planners. The Hindi version "Francis: Shigratha mein ek manushya" will be performed by a special cast from Delhi and Jharkhand, while the English version has a promising set of student actors from Goa. (H) VIBRANT MOOD AT NAVELIM: For villagers of Navelim, the feast of patron Our Lady of Rosary has always been a major event of the year. On Wednesday (Nov 17), every household in Navelim was vibrant with the festive mood. The festival day has also been an occasion to those returning to their roots from abroad.It is not only the church bells peeling and the traditional "Alvorada" that heralds the feast day but the cries of pigs being slaughtered for the preparation of delicious Goan dishes - "sorpotel, vindalho and roast" - for the feast lunch. It is good news for the hotel industry and those involved in it, as the tourist season this year has seen the peak of booming business in Goa.But the sight of a tourist hub like Calangute, is pathetic and disgusting. It is an eyesore to any visitor, forget about the local populace.It is potholes all the way, waste dumped from constructions, unplanned road dividers and unmanned traffic which rules the day. One can imagine the plight of traffic at this very joint at any given time of the day. (GT) A LITTLE BIT OF.: Massage parlours, the world over, are synonymous with criminal activities, namely prostitution. In Goa, sources say, the situation is just as bad and in the bargain the ancient medicinal science of Ayurveda is suffering. According to estimates, there are an estimated 150 massage parlours from Sinquerim to Baga. A majority of them are run by fly-by-night operators who swindle foreign tourists by offering 'authentic' massages. This figure excludes the roving masseurs who walk the beach offering foreign tourists soothing massages while they lie on their beach beds. The day will start with a feast mass to be held at the Sacred Heart Church in Manama at 11 am, according to Gulf Daily News. Celebrations will follow at the hotel, with live entertainment provided by six-piece band 'City Limits', flown in from Goa. Talvadkar brings to NRECA over 25 years of experience with the World Bank Group, including its private sector affiliate - The International Finance Corporation - where he held several senior positions including Director of Power Investments from 1997 to 2001. The NRECA international program was established in 1962 to offer assistance to developing countries worldwide who were interested in adopting the USA rural electrification model established in the mid-1930s.
