FC Barcelona have once again confirmed their
aspirations for this season, beating an uninspired
Real Madrid in an entertaining clash, as the gap
between the two giants increases to seven points.

Media in Catalonia had been speculating on a possible
big win for FC Barcelona against arch rivals Real
Madrid in the first 'Clasico' of the season, and the
team of coach Frank Rijkaard lived up to expectations,
ending the match with a convincing 3-0 victory at Camp
Nou.

The homeside dominated from the start, while Madrid
showed little inspiration throughout the entire match.
In the 29th minute, Roberto Carlos and Casillas failed
to communicate and Samuel Eto'o took advantage, taking
the ball past the goalkeeper and allowing the 105,000
spectators to start celebrating their first goal.

Just before the half time whistle, the only remaining
Dutchman in the Catalan squad, Giovanni van
Bronckhorst, even doubled the lead for Barça. 'Gio'
entered the penalty area from the left side, received
the ball and easily found the net.

The second half was somewhat less entertaining than
the first, as Madrid failed to find their way back
into the match. In the 76th minute, Eto'o was brought
down by Guti and Walter Samuel, and the referee called
for a penalty. The Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho
converted, striking into the upper left corner for
3-0.

Real Madrid's inability to compete with Barcelona was
demonstrated by the substitutions of both Zinedine
Zidane and Raul Gonzales in the second half. For the
hosts, the only negative aspect of Saturday's match
was the foot injury of Swedish striker Henrik Larsson,
who may miss this week's Champions League match with
Celtic.
