What would happen if a lower caste Hindu (and his family) took a liberal, intelligent upper caste Hindu (and family) into their temple and then had a meal with them?)
Nothing! The heaven won't fall! In fact, such things are happening in several parts of the country. Inter-caste marriages among the Hindus are no longer a novelty.
It's only the most obscurantist and ignorant among the Hindus who cling to their caste hangovers today. In fact, my own observation is that those who have nothing else to flaunt, flaunt their castes!
I would have done away with my surname if I had a choice.
